[Solved] Clean install on OpenHabian does not work

Hi everybody,
I don’t really know if my issue is placed here correctly, I might have to use the OpenHab community. But I will give it a try.

I’ve been using Homegear on OpenHabian for several years. Now I decided to start from scratch with OpenHab 3. I used OpenHabian 1.6.2 image on a blanc SD card. Everything was fine and I used the ‘openhabian-config’ to install homegear. After that homegear is up and running but there are some strange issues.

First of all the homegear-management service needs 5 tries to start. See syslog:

The file /etc/systemd/system/homegear.service

[Unit]
Description=Homegear
PartOf=openhab2.service

[Service]
Type=simple
User=homegear
Group=homegear
RuntimeDirectory=homegear
RuntimeDirectoryMode=0755
LimitRTPRIO=100
TasksMax=infinity
LimitCORE=infinity
ExecStart=/usr/bin/homegear

[Install]
WantedBy=multi-user.target

The line PartOf=openhab2.service is probably wrong, isn’t it? I am using openHab 3.

Last night I thought I could not access the log files. But that was late, today it’s working. Maybee the management-process corrected some rights.

The problem is that homegear does not start after a reboot. Probably because auf the line stated above, right? What are the correct values?

Second problem: the HM-MOD-RPI-PCB is not recognize any more. I read tons of disscussion here and noticed that @mstormi told us not to edit cmdline.txt and config.txt any more (HM-MOD-RPI-PCB an PI3 mit Openhab Umzug auf buster).
But what else has to be configured? It does not work from scratch?

Regards
Martin

Sorry, some additional infos:

Of course I edited the homematicbidcos.conf

Platform = Raspberry Pi 3 Model B Plus Rev 1.3

The homegear.log does not show any problems:

I removed openHABian some time ago and switched to Raspbian directly. According to my opinion openHABian creates more problems than it helps if you plan to install more than openHAB on this RPi. It’s a good start if everything works as intended.

I use Raspbian and install the openhabian-config-tool manually. I also install homegear manually, because then i know what is being installed and not what the authors of openHABian decided to need to be installed. I also use the homegear-nightly, which is not available with openhabian-config.

Are you really using max, homematic-bidcos and homematic-wired?

From the logfile, the installation of homegear through openhabian-config looks somehow broken.

I would purge homegear completely and reinstall homegear directly via apt without openhabian-config. Then you have a pretty standard installation and can start from there.

Mmh, I would consider this as my last option.

I rebootet my PI (which I haven’t done after the installation) and now the log-directory is missing and (as expected) the homegear service does not start

[18:32:45] openhabian@openHABianDevice:/var/log$ sudo service homegear status
[sudo] password for openhabian:
● homegear.service - Homegear
   Loaded: loaded (/etc/systemd/system/homegear.service; enabled; vendor preset: enabled)
   Active: failed (Result: exit-code) since Sun 2020-12-27 18:17:20 CET; 19min ago
  Process: 372 ExecStart=/usr/bin/homegear (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)
 Main PID: 372 (code=exited, status=1/FAILURE)

Dec 27 18:17:18 openHABianDevice systemd[1]: Started Homegear.

I spend a night playing around with my installation. To make a long story short:

I started from scratch again and installed homegear manually. Everything worked fine. I just had to add th users openhabian and openhab to the homegear group. Done! Works fine.

After I prepared the serial ports in openhabian-config tool and edited homematicbidcos.conf the HM-MOD-RPI-PCB was recognized and paring was no problem at all.

I guess this topic can be closed…

So, this bit of information is wrong. Because what you are doing with that files is disabling the serial console and moving Bluetooth to the mini-UART.
